KAREN DEMIRCHYAN MONUMENT

The statue of Karen Demirchyan, an
Armenian political and statesman, First Secretary of the Central Committee of
the Communist Party of Armenia (1974-1988), Chairman of the National Assembly
of the Republic of Armenia (1999), National Hero of the Republic of Armenia
(posthumously, 1999), was erected in front of the Yerevan Sports and Concert
Complex named after him, in the area adjacent to Leningradyan Street. The
ceremonial opening of the statue took place on September 9, 2023, during the
events dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the construction of the complex.
Karen Demirchyan is sculpted in a
movement characteristic of his image, walking towards the people. The statue is
cast in bronze, 3.6 m high, the height of the pedestal is 1.4-1.6 m, and has
the appearance of a sloping platform, similar to the steps of the complex. The
statue is a tribute to the Armenian figure.
