prominent Armenian businessman and philanthropist, oil producer, main
shareholder of the Tbilisi Commercial Bank, founder of the Mantashyants
Commercial Joint-Stock House and the Mantashyan Commercial School, Honorary
President of the Caucasian Armenian Benevolent Society, patron of
art and science, Knight of the French Legion of Honor (awarded for financing
the construction of the St. John the Baptist Armenian Church in Paris) The
monument to Alexander Mantashyants (Mantashov, 1842-1911) was installed on
Abovyan Street, next to the St. Catholic and St. Anna churches. The monument is
placed on a circular pedestal. It is made of bronze and is 3 meters high.
