MONUMENT TO ALEXANDER MYASNIKYAN

1980

State index: 1.6.131

Architect: Jim Torosian

Sculptor։ Ara Shiraz

The monument stands on the corner of Grigor Lusavorich Street, on Myasnikyan Square. It honors the Soviet, state, party, and military figure, literary scholar, and first Chairman of the Council of People’s Commissars of the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic, Alexander Miasnikyan (1886-1925).

The monument is an architectural-sculptural complex that solves an important urban planning task - it connects Shahumyan Square and Myasnikyan Square. On a raised common pedestal, the monument places a low, rectangular, polished pedestal, upon which the Myasnikyan statue stands, executed in pink granite (height - 8.6 m).

The statesman appears in military uniform, with a true-to-life portrait. Behind the statue, polished gray granite sculptural columns and five stepped obelisks rise up.

On the rightmost obelisk, the words “ALEXANDER MYASNIKYAN” are engraved, and on the leftmost obelisk are lines by Yeghishe Charents, dedicated to Alexander Myasnikyan:

“THE LENIN FLAME GLEAMED WITH YOUR NAIRIAN SUN. YEGHISHE CHARENTS”.

One of the obelisks features a recess resembling a khatchkar, with carved floral patterns and the coat of arms of the Soviet Armenia.
