HISTORICAL BUILDINGS
The building was constructed in
1954 as the administrative headquarters of the Union of Writers of Armenia and
as a Writers’ House. Initially, it was a two-story private mansion located in a
small park on Marshal Baghramyan Avenue. The central part is designed as a
semicircular volume projecting from the main mass of the building, articulated
with an elegant arcade, where the main entrance is located.
The first floor contains the
entrance hall, assembly halls, and service rooms. The basement houses the
cloakroom and café. The second floor contains the main hall. The attached
section contains service rooms.
In the 1970s, a third floor was
added to the central two-story volume, and a four-story extension was built on
the courtyard side.
The building is constructed of
red finely cut tuff in midis masonry. It is one of the major cultural and
public centers of Yerevan. Artistically, it is characteristic of 1950s Soviet
Armenian architecture.
