TV TOWER

1957-1963

State index: 1.9.3

Architect: Onik Dokhikian
Engineer: Stasyuk

It is located on the heights of Old Nork. The design and implementation of the Television Center were carried out between 1957 and 1963 by order of the Ministry of Communications of the Armenian SSR and the State Committee for Radio Broadcasting and Television of the Armenian SSR. The technological and sanitary-technical sections of the project were developed in Moscow. Construction was carried out by Construction Trust No. 3 of the Ministry of Construction of the Armenian SSR.

The first structures included the technical station building and the main studio complex. In the 1970s, due to the rapid development of film production, a film production building and a drama studio were constructed. At that time, a 200-meter-high television tower was installed, which in the 1980s was replaced by a new 350-meter-high tower.

The main building is a rectangular structure, with a spacious central hall of the TV station, 12 meters high and covering 600 m². Around it, on five floors of the building, are located acting, editorial, administrative, and technical rooms. The interior of the lobby is designed with pilasters and mosaics. The staircases located in the corner sections of the building are clad in white marble. The main façade is decorated with powerful 16-meter-high columns. It is constructed from Noyemberyan felsite using a masonry technique.
