WINEPRESS N 3 IN THE DALMA GARDENS
19th century
State index: 1.7.11.4
Located
in the eastern part of the Dalma Gardens, at the foothill of a hillside slope.
It
was built in the 19th century, during the reign of the last Persian sardar of
Yerevan, Hussein Qoli Khan (1807–1828), when the Dalma canal was restored, new
orchards were established, and viticulture and winemaking developed, along with
the construction of numerous pressing houses and cellars.
The
pressing house has a rectangular plan. The partially ruined walls have been
preserved, with traces of clay plaster, as well as the eastern part of the
vaulted roof. There are two entrances from the southern side, the eastern of
which is arched. The northern wall contains arched niches. The interior space
was later divided into two sections by a partition wall. It is built of roughly
hewn stone, while the vault is made of brick-sized carved tuff.
On
the western side, ruins of attached structures (a cellar and a residential
room) are preserved.
