WINEPRESS N 2 IN THE DALMA GARDENS
19th century
State index: 1.7.11.3
Located
in the northern part of the Dalma Gardens, on a gently sloping surface, not far
from a Bronze–Iron Age burial mound.
It
was built in the 19th century, when during the reign of the last Persian sardar
of Yerevan, Hussein Qoli Khan (1807–1828), the Dalma canal was restored, new
orchards were established, and viticulture and winemaking developed, along with
the construction of numerous pressing houses and cellars.
The
winepress is oriented north–south and has a rectangular plan. The entrance is
located on the northern side. The walls are partially collapsed, and part of
the vaulted roof has been preserved. Small triangular niches are present in the
eastern wall.
It is constructed
in the lower courses from stones of various sizes (basalt, tuff, limestone),
while the upper courses are made of brick-sized red tuff stones. Traces of clay
plaster are preserved on the walls. The interior is filled with rubble.
