HISTORICAL BUILDINGS
MAIN ADMINISTRATION BUILDING OF “ARMENERGY”
1940
The building is located at the
intersection of Abovyan and Isahakyan Streets. The structure consists of
symmetrical residential and administrative sections connected by a polygonal
tower-like volume. In the administrative section, the offices are arranged
along both sides of a corridor. The residential section is of a standard
multi-section type with two entrances.
The exterior volumetric-spatial
composition is symmetrical, with the exception of the wide balconies on the
side façade of the residential section. Both parts of the building are four
stories high and share a common cornice that also extends across the upper part
of the tower-like volume.
The façades are designed with a
rhythmic sequence of stone pilasters topped with capitals of the classical
order. The surfaces of the tower-like section form faceted pilasters. The
partition walls are faced with gray cement. Classical compositional and architectural
forms were used in the design of the building.
In 1971, an additional volume
equal in height to the second-floor level was constructed on the courtyard side
of the façade, housing the dispatch service hall.
The building is one of
Yerevan’s distinctive pre-war constructions (before World War II, 1941–1945)
and is considered a successful example of combining administrative and
residential functions within a single architectural volume.
