The building is located on
Mashtots Avenue. The design process began in 1937, and construction was
completed in 1942. The building has four floors. Its main section faces
Mashtots Avenue, while the other sections face Moskovyan Street and Isahakyan
Street. The 2nd to 4th floors are residential. The building consists of 52
apartments. Various architectural features characteristic of the classical
style were used. The construction materials are gray basalt and pink felsite.
One of Yerevan residents’
favorite cafés, “Skvoznyachok” (“Breeze”), was located on the first floor of
the building. The House of Art Workers and the editorial office of the magazine
“Soviet Art” were also located here.
The building was constructed
for actors and art workers. Outstanding masters of the Armenian stage and
cultural figures lived here. Memorial plaques dedicated to Hrachya Nersisyan,
Shara Talyan, Vavik Vardanyan, David Malyan, Gurgen Gabrielyan, Ashot Satyan,
Mikayel Maluntsyan, Vagharsh Vagharshyan, Avet Avetyan, and S. Stepanyan are
installed on the façades of the building.
The Actors’ Residential
Building is one of the prominent architectural structures of Yerevan from the
1930s–1950s.
