HAKOB MEGHAPART MONUMENT

The
statue of the first Armenian printer, founder of Armenian printing, Hakob
Meghapart (15-16th centuries) is located on Isahakyan Street, in front of the
Press Committee building. It is made of greenish-blue granite and is 6 m high. Meghapart is sculpted on a granite polished
wall, standing, his right hand resting on the printing press, in his left hand
holding the first Armenian printed book, the collection of prayers and wishes
" Friday Book" (1512).
On
the left edge of the sculptural composition are depicted the five
Armenian-language books of 1512-1513 published by Meghapart, below which his
imprint is depicted, with a cross and the Latin letters D, I, Z, A: Dei Servus
Iakobus Zanni Armenius - "Servant of God Hakob Zanni Armenian". Near
the imprint is inscribed: FIRST ARMENIAN PRINTER. 1512, and at the bottom of
the wall - HAKOB MEGHAPART.
On
the back is the name of the sculptor and the year of creation of the monument:
